MEP Maria Grapini firmly demanded, in the EP plenary, the withdrawal of Ursula von der Leyen’s candidacy for the presidency of the European Commission, in the context of the lack of performance in the current five-year mandate!
“The President of the European Commission, records a “performance” in five years of mandate: she did not manage, not even in a single plenary session, to fully attend and listen to the point of view of the MEPs until the end. What performance are we talking about, Madam President? You have shown the greatest lack of transparency, you are the only president of the European Commission who has a negative notice from all the institutions, starting with the European Parliament, continuing with the Ombudsman and ending with the European Court of Auditors, on the financial discharge of the Commission! How can you talk about competitiveness, about a fair policy? What correct policy are you talking about when you leave a divided market!”, MEP Grapini pointed out in her intervention.
According to MEP Maria Grapini, in five years of her mandate, Ursula von der Leyen was not able to create the EU single market, nor to plead and argue before Austria for Romania and Bulgaria to join the Schengen Area.
“You have done nothing in this term and I think it would be honorable to withdraw your candidacy for the position of president of the European Commission because, even so, you won the first term with only four more votes!”, concluded MEP Maria Grapini.
